This is a list of gamerules for the Java Edition of Minecraft. commandBlocksEnabled, pvp, showCoordinates, tntExplodes, and showTags are not available in Java.


Command blocks and pvp can be configured in the server.properties file.

announceAdvancements

Description: Whether advancements should be announced in chat.

Introduced in Version: 1.12

Default Value: true

commandBlockOutput

Description: Whether command blocks should notify admins when they perform commands.

Introduced in Version: 1.4.2

Default Value: true

Usage:

disableElytraMovementCheck

Description: Whether the server should skip checking player speed when the player is wearing elytra. If disabled it can help with the “username moved too quickly!” and “username moved wrongly!” warnings, but also allows for players to fly hack easier.

Usage:

gamerule disableElytraMovementCheck true

disableRaids

Description: Whether raids are disabled. When enabled the Bad Omen effect will no longer trigger raids in villages and will not be removed from the player when entering a village. This will also cancel any raids in progress.

doDaylightCycle

Description: Whether the day-night cycle and moon phases progress. Players can still skip to daytime using beds.

Description: Whether entities that are not mobs should have drops, including item frames, boats, and minecarts.

Description: Whether players should be able to craft only those recipes that they've unlocked first.

Description: Whether mobs should drop items.

doMobSpawning

Description: Whether mobs should naturally spawn. Affects only natural mob spawning. Mobs from structures, spawners, and events still spawn when set to false.

Description: Whether patrols can spawn. Disabling this can help with lag on a server.

doTileDrops

Description: Whether blocks should have drops. If false, containers still drop their contents, but not themselves, Shulker boxes do not drop anything, destroying an armor stand will not give you anything back. Item frames will still drop themselves and their item.

Description: Whether wandering traders can spawn. Disabling this can help with lag on a server.

Description: Makes angered neutral mobs stop being angry when the targeted player dies nearby. Bees will always attack anyone when their hive is broken.

Description: Whether the player should keep items and experience in their inventory after death. Health and hunger are still reset and any armor damage from the death is kept.

maxCommandChainLength

Description: Determines the number at which the chain command block acts as a chain. Must be a positive whole number.

maxEntityCramming

Description: The maximum number of other pushable entities a mob or player can push, before taking suffocation damage. Setting to 0 or lower disables the rule. Applies to all entities except for Bats. This can be lowered to help server performance.

Usage:

mobGriefing

Description: Whether mobs should be able to change blocks or pick up items. This also disables pigmen and drowned pathfinding to break turtle eggs and prevents villagers from breeding. This does not change player abilities.

naturalRegeneration

Description: Whether the player can regenerate health naturally. Players can still heal using potion effects from potions and golden apples.

randomTickSpeed

Description: How often a block tick occurs per chunk. Block updates can be disabled by setting this value to 0, and increased by setting it to a higher value. This changes crop growth, fire spread, grass spread, leaf decay, etc.

reducedDebugInfo

Description: Whether the debug screen shows all or reduced information and whether entity hitboxes and chunk boundaries are shown.

Description: Whether the feedback from commands executed by a player should show up in chat. Will also change command blocks saving results.

Description: Whether death messages are put into chat when a player or pet dies.

Introduced in Version: 1.8

spawnRadius

Description: The radius blocks outward from the world spawn coordinates that a player spawns in when first joining a server or respawning without a spawn point. Setting this to 0 will cause all players to spawn in the same location and disable spawn protection.

spectatorsGenerateChunks

Description: Whether players in spectator mode can generate chunks. Disabling this can help server performance.
